Jan 23 3:00 PM (VIETNAM) EYEGLASSES & CHICKENS

It has been an intense two days and I apologize for not writing yesterday. I came back to the hotel pretty beat. I will now provide a quick overview, though, which will be followed by detailed accounts of each event. 

Yesterday Khanh (Hearts for Hue) picked me up at 7 AM, after which we snaked our way out of Hue destined to Quang Phu and Huong Van Communes, where we worked all day administering the eyeglass program for 210 students and 200 non-student villagers. We arranged for optometrists to be on-site to provide exams and a final check of the students' newly-created glasses to ensure prescription accuracy. It was amazing! To say the least, it was full day. Details and more photos to follow. 

Today the focus has been chickens....1000 21-day-old peepers to 20 families.  Khanh and I left Hue at 7:30 AM destined to a rural village of Huong Tra, where 20 folks were waiting with motorbikes to get their birds, feeder/waterer, and 50# bag of starter food. It has been raining since last night, so we came back pretty drenched. I thought that the rainy season was over! Details to follow.

I have to acquire, organize and sort many photos from several sources, so it takes some time. I'll keep plugging along this afternoon and try to have a picture of the above-referenced activities painted for you by this evening or tomorrow AM. I'll strive to do so today.

MARCH 6 10:15 AM (ALASKA) ALMOST THERE!

My goodness, this laptop file restoration has been a drawn-out endeavor. However, the process shows to be 100% and I expect a call-back from Carbonite today. My fingers are crossed. Hopefully, I'll have access to photos from the last few days (pre-crash) in Vietnam and will be able to share them with you. I apologize for the lengthy delay.  I bought an iPad and will have a back-up next time.  Thanks again for your support and your interest in helping and healing in Vietnam. FEB 25 5:30 PM (ALASKA) FEB 3- EYEGLASS/DENTAL PROGRAM AT HONG HA SCHOOL

Just before 7:00 AM, Khanh, Dr. Trang (Khanh's wife), and I departed Hue with a destination of Hong Ha. This is the same village where we attended the Rotary Club latrine project closing ceremony on January 26. The route, actually the old Ho Chi Minh Trail, leads to a very mountainous region. Visible is Hamburger Hill, which was the site of a May 13-20 battle between US/South Vietnamese Forces and North Vietnamese Forces. The drive is rather slow, with continuous sharp turns. The mountain scenery, though, is beautiful. If time permitted, I would have liked to do some hiking there.     Eventually we made it to Hong Ha, where students and faculty were waiting at the school.    Road to Hong Ha With Khanh at Hong Ha School   Dr. Trien and his staff were already set up and ready to begin eyeglass distribution.
